on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute

The Symposium was held in the conference room of the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute, on the grounds of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

This two-day conference with poster sessions and invited oral speakers:
- Brought together disciplines involved in the research and development relevant to radiation biodosimetry;
- Presented and discussed current biodosimetry-related scientific data, results, and issues;
- Encouraged communication among researchers, educators, public health officials, and medical personnel who respond to radiological incidents, and funding agencies.
Biodosimetry topics included:
- Large-animal models for translational radiobiology research studies—bioindicators for acute radiation subsyndromes or sickness (ARS);
- Biological dosimetry including triage, field deployable and reference laboratory assays;
- Cytogenetic biodosimetry for radiation dose assessement.
