Defense & Veterans Center for Integrative Pain Management (DVCIPM)

Established in 2003, the Defense and Veterans Center for Integrative Pain Management (DVCIPM) is aligned under the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) and the Department of Military Emergency Medicine (MEM).  DVCIPM became a Defense Center of Excellence in 2016, and seeks to improve the management of pain in military and civilian medicine and to guide research and policy regarding pain and its treatment.  Additionally, DVCIPM serves as the advisory organization on pain management research, education, and clinical policy issues for the Military Health System (MHS) and Veteran’s Health Affairs (VHA).  They assess the effectiveness and safety of pain care for MHS and VHA beneficiaries, and provide an administrative structure in the form of a Military Pain Medicine Board of Directors (MPMBD) consisting of Air Force, Army, Navy, VHA, and civilian expert clinicians and researchers experienced in the management of acute and chronic pain.
