Network Operations & Communications

Operation Branch Functions

Responsible for the University's computer systems design, implementation, maintenance, and configuration management.

This consists of the Backbone of the University Information System which includes the Domain Name Servers (DNS), Cisco Routers, Alcatel smart switches, Cabletron Edge switches, Proxy Server, the cable connections inside and outside of USU, and the network monitoring services.

This also consists of the areas including electronic Mail servers, File Servers, Database servers, Web servers, and VAX systems.

Telecom Branch Functions

Responsible for the University's telephone and video conferencing requirements.

This includes in excess of 2,600 voice and fax telephone lines, 1,400 voice mailboxes, providing video teleconferencing, and satellite technical support for the University community.

Information Assurance Functions

Protect and defend information and information systems by ensuring their availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation providing for restoration of information systems by incorporating protection, detection, and reaction capabilities.
