CPDR Education and Training
The program has on average 10 trainees per year, who are mentored by a designated faculty or senior scientist of the CPDR-BSRP. The CPDR-BSRP provides great opportunities for the trainees to present their findings and to receive bold criticism in the CPDR's Thursday Seminars. Moreover, the bi-weekly Science Hour is providing special opportunity for postdoctoral fellows and students to discuss their newest findings. Special experts in the field of prostate cancer or other cancers are invited to the CPDR on a monthly basis, to address the latest findings of their research .
The CPDR supports the visits of distinguished basic science and clinical researchers in the field of prostate cancer for four "CPDR Saturday" lectures on yearly basis. Urology residents receive CME credits for their participation in the Saturday meetings. CPDR trainees actively participate in local events such as lectures and workshops at NIH, USU and other research institutions in the area. Training of CPDR employees at local educational institutions is strongly encouraged in the areas that will increase their productivity at work.
CPDR staff actively participates in the Department of Surgery Research Meetings supporting the Department of Surgery, Uniformed Services University basic science research and education mission. CPDR trainees have been provided with the opportunity to present their findings in one or two international or local conferences a year. The immersion of CPDR trainees to intense scientific debates is an important goal of the Training and Education Program at CPDR. As a result the CPDR is proud of the numerous invited presentations special awards, travel awards that our trainees were honored with in the past.
Opportunities for motivated high school and college students are available at CPDR. This provides an opportunity for students to gain exposure to the field of biomedical research. Since 1999 four-six students per year have gained valuable experience through this program, and several of them have embarked on educational paths leading to medical or graduate school.
