Respiratory Protection
Respirators are an effective method of protection against designated hazards when properly selected and worn. Respirators are Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and (when needed) are issued by the Department of Environmental Health/Occupational Safety (EHS). When EHS determines that a hazard exists an appropriate respirator will be approved, fitted, and you will receive appropriate training, and be medically cleared for use of the respirator. Respirator use may be encouraged by your supervisor or Principle Investigator (PI) (even though EHS has not determined that exposures exceed the OSHA exposure limit,) to provide an additional level of comfort and protection to you. If your supervisor or PI chooses to make a respirator available to you and you use it on a voluntary basis, refer to the
Respirator Selection 222 Form.
