Certificate Course Requirements

I-FHPE Certificate

The I-FHPE certificate provides education for individuals (medical learners, faculty, other graduate education program learners) seeking additional knowledge and skills in the theory, research, and practice of HPE within the MHS and PHS. To obtain the I-FHPE certificate, learners will be required to complete a minimum of 9 credit hours of coursework.  All coursework can be completed on Sakai, USU’s online learning platform.

*Note that USUHS graduate courses are based on quarter credit hours. One (1) traditional semester credit hour is equivalent to 1.5 quarter credit hours.

 FHPE Certificate

The FHPE Certificate is meant for individuals who wish to enhance their skills in leadership, research, and teaching. It is a stepping stone towards the MHPE and PhD in HPE degrees; it can also serve as a stand-alone credential for those individuals interested in receiving an introduction to the theory and practice of health professions education. Learners can take any HPE course totaling a minimum of 20 credit hours.

A-FHPE Certificate

The A-FHPE Certificate extends beyond the FHPE, by requiring learners to take all of the coursework for the MHPE degree and complete the practicum, seminar and portfolio. The A-FHPE serves to provide learners with an in-depth understanding of concepts and challenges learned in the MHPE, but without any thesis (research) requirements. To obtain the A-FHPE certificate, learners will be required to complete a minimum of 44 credit hours of coursework. The expectation is that the A-FHPE certificate will be completed within two academic years on a part time basis
