Biography
Dr. Jonas has fulfilled several roles in the US Air Force Medical Corps. Prior to arriving at USU, he was a physician for the White House Medical Unit (WHMU) in Washington DC from 2012-2016, where he was also a WHMU Deputy Director and Chief of Clinical & Executive Medicine Services. Prior to entering the White House Medical Unit, Dr. Jonas completed his Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, including significant amounts of time at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Dr. Jonas spent 4 years as a faculty member at Eglin Air Force Base Family Medicine Residency in Florida, where he was a clerkship and rotation site coordinator. He deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and completed Air War College via correspondence through Air University.
Dr. Jonas is a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). He was elected and subsequently served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians (USAFP) from 2012-2015 and Vice President of that organization from 2017-2018. He was elected President of USAFP and installed to this position in March 2019. He has been an Alternate Delegate and Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates, the policy making body for the nation’s largest medical specialty organization.
