LCDR Litchfield enlisted in the Navy in 1991 and served as a quartermaster aboard the USS Goldsborough (DDG-20), USS Worden (CG-18), and USS McClusky (FFG-41). LCDR Litchfield reported to the Naval Brig/CCU Puget Sound in 1996 where he served as the Education and Training Officer. In 1999, he was selected to participate in the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Seattle University in 2002. Upon commission, ENS Litchfield was assigned to Naval Hospital Bremerton where he served in the Intensive Care Unit.
LCDR Litchfield was selected for Duty Under Instruction (DUINS) Nurse Anesthesia Option in 2006 and received a Master of Science degree from Uniformed Services University in 2009. After graduation he served as a staff nurse anesthetist at Naval Medical Portsmouth (NMCP) and deployed as the sole anesthesia provider on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
In 2012, LCDR Litchfield transferred to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune where he served as a staff nurse anesthetist. Additionally, following graduation from the Helm's Medical Institute Medical Acupuncture for Physicians Course in 2013, he served as the initial Director of Acupuncture Services.
In 2014, LCDR Litchfield was again selected for DUINS where he attended the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. He is currently a PhD Candidate finishing his doctoral dissertation evaluating the Effects of Isoflurane on the Integrity of the Blood Brain Barrier.
