Biography

Dr. Jackson started his Navy Career as an engineering officer on an aircraft carrier. He has a long history of involvement in education including an early stint teaching science in a public high school in Brooklyn, NY. As an optometrist with a degree in public health he has published research in Archives of Ophthalmology, written a textbook chapter on public health informatics, as well as authored a policy statement on emergency eye care for the American Public Health Association. He spent much of his Navy career as the extern coordinator for the Navy's 23 Optometry training sites. He came to USU following his tour as Director for Education, Training and Research at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital and Co-Chair of the Education, Research, Training and Simulation Board of the National Capital Region-Medical Directorate. He retired from the Navy in 2016 but was hired as a federal civilian as the Chief of Staff of the Hebert School of Medicine.
