A native of Los Angeles, California, Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer 1st Class Lam entered the United States Navy on 30 September, 2008. He completed Basic Recruit Training and Hospital Corpsman “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois.

HM1 Lam checked into Programmed School Input (PSI) duty in Camp Pendleton, CA before reporting into Field Medical Training Battalion (FMTB) graduating in class 09040 on July 2009. Upon graduation, he reported to his first duty station at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) on August 2009. He started off with temporary duty assignments at Preventive Medicine assisting with the efforts of the seasonal flu vaccination. With great mentorship and devotion towards his advancement studies, then HN Lam was selected for advancement and was frocked to Petty Officer Third Class. In March 2010; after completing his temporary duty assignments at Preventive Medicine, he then checked into Branch Medical Clinic Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego (BMC-MCRD). As a Junior Corpsman he was assigned to Recruit Sickcall then transferred over towards the Acute Care Area (ACA). During his rotation at Recruit Sickcall he was assigned as the Delta Company Corpsman. When he rotated into the ACA, he then became the corpsman liaison for receiving all trauma patients into the clinic. Petty Officer Lam completed his tour at NMCSD on July 2011.

HM1 Lam reported into 1st Marine Logistics Group in Camp Pendleton, CA on August 2011. He was attached to Combat Logistics Battalion 5 (CLB-5) out of 21 Area Camp Del Mar. While attached with CLB-5 he then deployed to Southern Helmand Province, Camp Dwyer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) 12.1. During the deployment, Petty Officer Lam was assigned as Headquarters Company Corpsman. Upon his redeployment then HM3 Lam continued on with his studies for advancement and was then selected and frocked to Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer Second Class. From his return on deployment and promotion to Second Class, HM2 Lam then detached from CLB-5 and checked into 1st Marine Logistics Headquarters Group, G-3, Navy Tactical Readiness and Training on February 2013. In close liaison with 1st MLG CMDCM Gerard “Bobby” Chiu, he was the Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist (EFMFWS) program coordinator for 1st MLG. Taking charge of his assignment as the Navy Tactical Readiness Instructor and EFMFWS program coordinator, through superior supervision and excellent performance he was selected as 1st MLG Junior Sailor of the Quarter (JSOQ) 2nd quarter FY-2014. Petty Officer Lam completed his tour at 1st MLG on August 2014.

HM1 Lam has now reported into Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD on September 2014. During his time here, his continued excellent performance and leadership got him selected as JSOQ 4th quarter CY-2014, Service Member of the Quarter (SMOQ) 1st quarter CY-2016, and SMOQ 4th quarter CY-2017. For his professionalism, team leadership and dedication to the mission, he was meritoriously promoted to Petty Officer 1st class by Colonel Jerome L. Buller.

HM1 Lam decorations and awards include Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal 2 awards, Navy Good Conduct Medal 3 awards, Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal, Expert Marksmanship Medal for the M9 pistol and M4 rifle, Flag letter of Commendation 6 awards, Unit award, and OEF Campaign medals. He is qualified to wear Enlisted Fleet Marine Force designator.
