Stop the Bleed bannerThe Stop the Bleed Education Consortium (SBEC) is a committee of nationally-recognized experts in Stop the Bleed (StB) education and training founded by the NCDMPH in 2017. Dr. Craig Goolsby, Chair of the SBEC effort, along with 30 internationally-recognized experts in the areas of trauma, disaster medicine, public health, medical education, emergency medicine, and EMS, reviewed existing layperson medical training programs and identified challenges in knowledge retention. The SBEC has established and published national and international standards for StB education in an effort to create a standardized approach to the content, content delivery mechanism, and assessments of effectiveness among existing training courses. The SBEC published their first paper in The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery  in which they made recommendations to establish the minimum suggested elements for educators to follow in designing curricula. These recommendations include visual aids, such as the soda can illustration which allows laypeople to recognize the volume of blood loss that can potentially be life- threatening. This committee includes members that represent the following organizations:
