The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has just released a report summarizing progress in its multi-year study of how critical buildings and emergency communications performed in Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria in September 2017. We have appreciated your support to NIST in this important effort as a formal member of the National Construction Safety Team, including your contributions as a co-author of this report.

This progress report, Learning from Hurricane Maria’s Impacts on Puerto Rico, explains the rationale for this effort, the specific regions of focus selected by the interdisciplinary team, and the approach that NIST is using.
