Dr. Jim Fike is a consultant in global health, working in travel and tropical medicine, and healthcare technologies in the humanitarian assistance and disaster response environments. He is board certified in internal medicine, qualified in aerospace medicine and has extensive experience in operational, wilderness, tropical, and travel medicine. A retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, he spent the last 11 years of his career within the Air Force International Health Specialist program in a variety of positions, including the director of the program and consultant in international health to the U.S. Air Force Surgeon General. While active duty military he maintained special experience identifiers as a global and regional health specialist. He served at all levels, tactical through strategic, both as a clinician and as a subject matter expert in medical stability operations; and either planned or led medical missions in 85 countries on 5 continents. Prior to that he was a Critical Care Air Transport Team physician and deployed medical commander for USAF Expeditionary Medical System missions in various operations. He remains clinically active as an internal medicine Red Cross volunteer physician for the U.S. Air Force, occasionally practicing overseas in humanitarian-based medical missions.

Dr Fike's research interests are in mobile learning and mobile applications for medical operations focused on austere environments, the implications of culture and language on healthcare, automation of medical information and measures of effectiveness, medical stability operations and military global health engagement, and travel and tropical medicine.
