BiographyCAPT Knollmann-Ritschel has 24 years of continuous active duty service in the Navy. She is board certified as an Anatomic and Clinical pathologist having served as Chief of Surgical Pathology and manager of Anatomic pathology at the National Naval Medical Center, Pathology Department Head in Naval Hospital Charleston, SC, Course Director of pathology, interim Chair, and Vice Chair of Pathology at USUHS. Dr. Knollmann-Ritschel is a leader in pathology education nationally, chair- elect of the Undergraduate Medical Education Section (UMEDS) of the Association of Pathology Chairs (APC), and Associate Editor of Academic Pathology. At the Uniformed Services University she developed the educational architecture of the Fundamentals Module of the pre-clerkship curriculum, integrating basic science and clinical courses into the module. She led the integration of medical student laboratory sessions and assessment. Clinically she practices pathology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and teaches the residents. She assumed responsibility for the laboratory of the late Dr. Radha Maheshwari, and collaborated in many areas including his research projects focusing on the development of miRNA biomarkers for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), radioprotection, and viral, mainly alpha virus, countermeasures, teaching, Global Health projects, and the Indo-Uniformed Services Collaboration.
