Biography

Dr.Handfield has been on faculty at USU since 2011 as a resident instructor in dermatology. In 2013, he joined the faculty at Walter Reed as fulltime staff. He has a special interest in integrative dermatology, using alternative therapies (including acupuncture) as well as conventional pharmacotherapies to treat a variety of skin diseases. More specifically, however, he enjoys treating chronic inflammatory dermatoses and uses a holistic, systems approach in the treatment of these diseases. Prior to becoming a physician, he served in the navy as a submarine officer and deployed to the Western Pacific in 1998. After finishing his General Surgery internship in 2006, he became an Undersea Medical Officer serving the submarine force in Groton, Connecticut until starting his dermatology residency at Walter Reed in 2010. He is the faculty advisor for the USU chapter of the Christian Medical and Dental Association and enjoys mentoring medical students in this capacity.
