Biography

CAPT Krahl graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in oceanography, and was commissioned as a Meteorology and Oceanography Officer in May 1990. Following a research internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, she served with Oceanographic Unit Four/USNS Chauvenet (T-AGS 29) during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, conducting hydrographic surveys. She then completed three deployments to the Antarctic providing meteorological analysis to support the research mission with Naval Support Force Antarctica.

She resigned her active commission in July 1995 to attend Emory University School of Medicine through the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program. She graduated cum laude in May 2000 with Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees and returned to active duty in May 2000, reporting to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA for internship and residency training in Internal Medicine. In June 2003, she reported to Naval Hospital Beaufort, SC where she served as staff internist and Department Head, Internal Medicine. She was board certified in internal medicine in October 2003.

In August 2005, Dr. Krahl transferred to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences for additional residency training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. She was subsequently assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) as staff occupational medicine physician and was appointed Medical Officer in Charge/Battalion Surgeon for CBIRF in April 2009. She was board certified in occupational and environmental medicine in January 2008 and was designated a Fleet Marine Force Qualified Officer in April 2010. CAPT Krahl transferred to U.S. Naval Hospital Sigonella, Italy in July 2010 where she served as Director of Public Health until July 2013. Dr. Krahl then served as Director of Public Health at Naval Health Clinic Annapolis from September 2013 to June 2016. She was appointed as the Navy Occupational and Environmental Medicine Specialty Leader in June 2015 and served in that role until November 2019.

CAPT Krahl is currently serving as Program Director of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency at the Uniformed Services University, and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics.
