Biography

Dr. Lipsitz was born and raised in Michigan. After graduating from Michigan State University with Honors in Anthropology with an emphasis in History of Art, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and attended Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit through the Health Professions Scholarship Program.

After medical school Dr. Lipsitz completed Family Medicine Internship at Naval Hospital Bremerton and deployed in 1994 as the General Medical Officer aboard USS Dubuque (LPD 8) home ported in Sasebo, Japan. After returning to Bremerton he completed his Family Medicine Residency and in 1998 moved again overseas to serve as a Staff Family Physician at Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan.

He subsequently served as Deputy Director for Physical Qualifications at Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in Washington DC (BUMED) and then as Senior Medical Officer at Naval Health Clinic Quantico. He was then selected for Preventive Medicine Residency training and received a Masters of Public Health from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. CAPT Lipsitz went on to serve as the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff at Naval Hospital Great Lakes while he was a assigned there as the Command’s Preventive Medicine Officer. He additionally served there as Navy Region Midwest Public Health Emergency Officer. He next returned to BUMED as the Preventive Medicine Action Officer for the Navy Surgeon General.

Captain Lipsitz additionally received a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, Newport RI and is currently serving as Chief, Direct Patient Care, for the Uniformed Services University, Preventive Medicine Residency Program. He maintains a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University. Captain Lipsitz maintains Board Certification in both Preventive Medicine and Family Medicine and is collaterally serving as the Preventive Medicine Specialty Leader for the United States Navy.
