Disaster Academic Interest Group

The Disaster Academic Interest Group is an interdepartmental, voluntary faculty and student consortium which seeks to create synergy between various sources of disaster response and management expertise at the Uniformed Services University. We seek inclusion of members from both the Graduate School of Nursing and the School of Medicine, as well as the National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health and the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine.

The group is first and foremost a forum to promote collaborative USUHS disaster response education and research. We hope to leverage USU and teaching hospital expertise in disasters, to merge 'silos of excellence' already in existence at the University, and to increase intra-USU collaboration, particularly with the Humanitarian Assistance-Disaster Response Student Interest Group.

Among the organizing members, the departments of Psychiatry, Surgery, Medicine, and Preventive Medicine and Biometrics, both Centers named above, both local teaching hospitals, and the Student Interest Group are represented.
