For Graduate Medical Education, the Norman M. Rich Department of Surgery participates as an active member of the National Capital Consortium (NCC), formed in 1995 to oversee GME in the National Capital Region. In addition to USU, integrated sites for the NCC include Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda Maryland, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and Malcom Grow Medical Center, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland.
As part of the NCC, the Department of Surgery supports residency and fellowship programs in the following fields:
- General Surgery
- Orthopedic Surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Ophthalmology
- Otolaryngology
- Urology
Fellowship training is available in the following areas as well:
- Vascular Surgery
- Surgical Education / Applied Simulation
