School of Medicine Curriculum

Drs. John McManigle and Neil Grunberg presented “Effective Communication” plenary session and small group activity to the Class of 2021 on 2 January 2018.

Dr. Eric Schoomaker presented “The Roles of Context and Organization” to the Class of 2021 on 23 October 2017.

Dr. John McManigle presented “Emotional Intelligence and MBTI” to the Class of 2021 on 23 October.

Dr. Nicole Hurst presented “Effective Teambuilding” to the Class of 2020 on 23 October 2017.

The LEAD Team took part in “Media Night” events at Operation Bushmaster (MFP 202) on 10 and 19 October 2017.

The LEAD Team took part as LEAD Faculty in Operation Bushmaster and MFP 101 at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA 7-20 October 2017.

Dr. Neil Grunberg and Ms. Erin Barry presented “Leaders, Managers, Followers” to the Class of 2020 on 12 September 2017.

Dr. John McManigle and Ms. Erin Barry presented “Self-Assessment and Peer Support” to the Class of 2020 on 25 August 2017. Discussion groups were led by Dr. McManigle, Ms. Barry, and Ms. Hannah Kleber.

Dr. John McManigle presented about Emotional Intelligence at “USU Integrative Medicine and Wellness Monthly Series” on 9 November 2017.

Dr. Neil Grunberg presented sessions on LEAD Evaluation and Training at Operation Bushmaster (MFP 202) on 7 and 16 October 2017.

Drs. Neil Grunberg and Eric Schoomaker presented “Bushsmaster Evaluation: How and Why?” To the class of 2018 on 6 October 2017.

The LEAD Team Presented to the NCO’s a session regarding leadership education and development on 20 September 2017.

LEAD Team was involved in the Antietam Battlefield Exercise on 18 August 2016.

Dr. John McManigle presented the LEAD Model and the idea for LEAD in Clerkship to the Executive Curriculum Committee on 6 July 2016.

Hannah Kleber presented a poster on the FourCe-PITO Framework for the USUHS Education day on 8 June 2016.

Dr. John McManigle presented the LEAD model to the Basic Science Department Chairs on 19 May 2016.

Dr. John McManigle presented the LEAD model to the Clinical Chairs on 7 April 2016.

Dr. John McManigle presented the LEAD model for the first time to the Executive Curriculum Committee regarding integrating LEAD content into the Clerkship for the medical school students on April 4 2016. 

National Activity

Ms. Hannah Kleber met with Harvard Medical School “Physician as Leader” program faculty to discuss LEAD in medical school curriculum on 29 January 2018.

Dr. Eric Schoomaker presented at the AMSUS Non-Pharmacologic Treatment of Pain Panel Discussion on 23 January 2018.

Dr. Eric Schoomaker and LTC Josh Hartzell presented “Service Leadership Talk” at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on 18 January 2018.

Ms. Hannah Kleber, Ms. Erin Barry and Dr. Neil Grunberg participated in meeting with NCDMPH and CSTS regarding April Symposium focusing on leadership.

Ms. Erin Barry and Dr. Neil Grunberg spoke with USAF Col Mark True, MD regarding LEAD for mid-level medical officers on 19 December 2017.

Ms. Hannah Kleber and Drs. Eric Schoomaker and Neil Grunberg met with Dr. Cormac O’Connor at Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital to discuss LEAD For Family Medicine uniformed residents and fellows on 11 December 2017.

Dr. Eric Schoomaker was the Keynote Speaker at Advanced Team Physician Course on 7 December 2017.

Dr. Eric Schoomaker took part in the West Virginia Pain Summit at WVU regarding the opioid crisis and pain management on 28-19 November 2017.

Dr. Neil Grunberg presented in a panel at the AAMC Annual meeting in Boston, MA and participated in a Medical Education Leadership Special Interest Group on 6 November 2017.

Dr. Neil Grunberg served on an invited panel to brief Congressional Staff about Addiction and the Opioid Crisis in the U.S., Capitol Hill, Washington, DC on 3 November 2017.

Dr. Neil Grunberg took part on the Presidential Leadership Scholars meeting at the Nixon Library 12-14 October 2017.

Dr. Eric Schoomaker was a panel member at the Inaugural Balanced Pain Management Congress in San Diego, CA 21-22 October.
