Biography

Dr. TingLan Ma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Professions Education at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. Her research explores medical trainees’ mistreatment, burnout, and well-being. Using a socio-cultural ecological systems framework, Dr. Ma examines how power structures, alongside protective and risk factors, shape trainee well-being. She employs diverse research methodologies—including mixed methods, quantitative, and qualitative analyses—and has authored over 50 peer-reviewed empirical studies. She currently serves as Deputy Editor for the Journal of Teaching and Learning in Medicine.
