Biography

Dr. Laura Barrett is a US Navy Internal Medicine physician at the District of Colombia Veterans Affairs Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine at USUHS, where she serves as the Site Director for the Medicine Clerkship at the DC VA. After attending Jefferson Medical College on an HPSP Scholarship, dr. Barrett completed residency training at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. She has experience working as a Hospitalist at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital prior to becoming the Department Head of Internal Medicine. Her operational experience includes providing medical care during Bulldog, the summer Officer Candidate School course that creates approximately 1200 new Marine Officers.

She served as the Chair of Medicine at Fort Belvoir Community hospital prior to a temporary assignment at the Office of the Attending Physician, providing medical care to our Legislative and Judicial branches of government. Her research interests include heart failure and cardiogenetic syndromes.
