Biography
A native of China Lake, California, David A. Nissan entered Naval Service through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Rochester. He attended Weill Cornell Medical College, completed Psychiatry Residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he served as the Chief Resident before entering active service at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) in 2016.Dr. Nissan deployed with USNS Comfort to Puerto Rico in support of support humanitarian operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, and established an embedded mental health team in Yokosuka, Japan to serve the forward-deployed surface forces.
Ashore, Dr. Nissan has served at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and Naval Medical Center San Diego, where he has worked as the Medical Student Psychiatry Clerkship Director, Associate Program Director, and Program Director from July to December 2018. Dr. Nissan is currently serving as the Psychiatry Residency Program Director at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
