Biography

Andy Chern is currently the Deputy Chief, Occupational Safety & Health for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). He obtained his undergraduate degree in biology from Indiana University and medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine on the Army's Health Professions Scholarship Program. After graduating medical school, he completed a Family Medicine internship at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital followed by a residency in Occupational & Environmental Medicine at the USU. His previous Active Duty assignments include Associate Director for the Occupational & Environmental Medicine Residency Program and Chief, Preventive Medicine Department at Fort Drum, NY, where he was also the Public Health Emergency Officer supporting public health efforts including the COVID-19 pandemic for an installation of nearly 35,000 soldiers, dependents, civilian employees, and contractors.

He provides lectures for several PMB graduate courses and programs, supports the USU's Delta Omega Psi Chapter (Honorary Society in Public Health), and participates with OEM resident education for the elective rotation at BOP.
