Biography

Chad Mao completed his undergraduate education in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and his medical school education at Wayne State University where he joined the United States Navy. He completed a pediatrics internship at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and subsequently served 3 years as an Undersea Medical Officer with 2d Force Reconnaissance out of Camp Lejeune, NC completing multiple combat tours before returning to Washington, DC to complete his general pediatrics residency. He stayed on staff as a Chief Resident and general pediatrician before entering his pediatric cardiology fellowship at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta – Emory University. Following fellowship, he took an assignment at Naval Medical Center San Diego where he was Chief of Pediatric Cardiology and the Associate Program Director for the pediatric residency program. While in San Diego, he held an appointment at Rady Children’s Hospital where he completed advanced training in pediatric electrophysiology. After 15 years of military service, he returned to Atlanta where he completed an advanced fellowship in pediatric heart transplant and advanced heart failure. He is currently on staff at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Medical Director of the Advanced Cardiac Therapies program. He practices as a pediatric heart transplant and heart failure specialist, pediatric electrophysiologist, and pediatric cardiac intensivist.
