Biography

Colonel Geoffrey Chin is an Associate Program Director for the Uniformed Services University/Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Clinical Pharmacology fellowship. He earned his BS in Biology and Music at Emory University, MS in Physiology at Georgetown University, and MD at Uniformed Services University. He holds board certifications in Internal Medicine (Walter Reed Army Medical Center), Endocrinology (Walter Reed National Military Medical Center), and Clinical Pharmacology. He is an adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at USU.

Following residency, he was assigned as a Flight Surgeon for 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, where he served in the 277th Aviation Support Battalion before deploying with the 3-10th General Support Aviation Battalion. During his 2013-2014 deployment to RC-East, Afghanistan, he was Medical Director for MEDEVAC, establishing blood transfusions on point-of-injury missions (“Vampire protocol”) throughout RC-East and flying 57 combat hours caring for 44 casualties. In 2016, he became Chief of the Endocrinology Service at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, where he established a Multidisciplinary Care Team supporting 7 MTFs throughout RHC-C, chaired the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, and helped train Internal Medicine residents. In 2021, he became Deputy Chief of the Thermal and Mountain Medicine Division at US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine and Capability Area Manager of the Performance and Health in Extreme Environments portfolio of the Military Operational Medicine Research Program. He helped plan research strategy and execute studies improving Warfighter medical readiness and performance, formed and chaired steering committees, and liaised with academic, industry, government, and international partners. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), and the Army Surgeon General’s “A” Proficiency Designation.
