BiographyDr. Heather Barbier received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, where she graduated magna cum laude. She completed medical school at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans then continued on to an Obstetrics & Gynecology residency with the Air Force. She completed her intern year at Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi, MS then moved to Naval Medical Center San Diego to complete residency following the Keesler program closure after hurricane Katrina. During her residency she served as Administrative Chief Resident.
Following completion of residency Dr. Barbier then served two overseas tours as a general OB/Gyn in the Air Force (at Yokota Air Base, Japan and Royal Air Force Base Lakenheath, England). She then moved to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where she completed a 3-year fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology) in 2015. After fellowship she moved to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth where she served as full-time faculty for the combined Navy-Air Force OB/Gyn residency program there. She also served as the Air Force Flight Commander for the NMCP program overseeing Air Force residents and faculty at that program.
In 2018, Dr. Barbier moved to Las Vegas to serve as the Military Program Director for a newly combined UNLV-Air Force residency program. Along with the Minimally Invasive Gynecology faculty, she started a new combined MIS/Urogynecology rotation for the academic year starting in 2019. She is overseeing the residency Quality Improvement curriculum. Additionally she has multiple publications, posters, and oral presentation and has given multiple lectures in Urogynecology topics to various audiences.
In her free time, Dr. Barbier likes to do outdoor activities as much as possible – in particular compete in triathlons – and to travel both around the US and internationally.
