Biography

Commander Ken Radford, PhD, CRNA is an Assistant Professor and the Deputy Program Director (RNA Program) in the Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing and Nurse Anesthesia Program. He is responsible for co-coordinating and instructing Evidence Based Practice, Introductory Statistics, Basic and Advanced Principles of Anesthesia, Pharmacology, and Co-Existing Disease and co-co-coordinating Anatomy and Physiology.

CDR Radford is a dedicated nurse scholar and educator. He has served as a clinical preceptor and currently provides guest lectures for the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), Georgetown University, and Duke University Nurse Anesthesia Programs. CDR Radford has received grant funding from both intramural and extramural sources to support his research exploring the effects of intravenous anesthetics on cognition and memory. Specifically, his recent doctoral research examined the dose-dependent effects of intravenous ketamine infusions on behaviors, biomarkers, and fear memory processes in a rodent post-traumatic stress disorder model. CDR Radford is a Jonas Scholar for Nursing Leadership and a Fellow of the National Institutes of Health Summer Genetics Institute.

CDR Radford enlisted in 1994 and served as a deck seaman aboard the USS Alabama and USS Michigan submarines and was awarded an NROTC scholarship to attend Marquette University in 1997. CDR Radford was commissioned as a Navy Nurse Corps Ensign in 2001 and began his nursing career as a pediatric and adult critical care nurse at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Next, he served as a critical care nurse at Naval Hospital Guam and was selected for the Navy Nurse Corps Anesthesia Program at Georgetown University in 2007. CDR Radford has served as a CRNA at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Naval Hospital Sigonella, Italy, National Naval Medical Center Walter Reed, and Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center (Ft. Meade). He has previously deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (Fleet Hospital 15), Pacific Partnership (USNS Mercy), and Operation Enduring Freedom (USS George H.W. Bush).

Major military awards include the Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer qualification, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and the enlisted Submarine Warfare qualification. LCDR Radford is a member of the AANA (since 2007) and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society (since 2001).

CDR Radford is originally from Minnesota and enjoys staying active through running, swimming, and hiking.
