Biography

Colonel Kirk H. Waibel assumed duty as Allergy/Immunology Consultant to The Surgeon General on 24 April 2015, the Medical Director for Regional Health Command Europe Virtual Health on 1 May 2015, Allergy/Immunization Service OIC, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center on 1 July 2015, and Regional Allergy/Immunologist Consultant, Regional Health Command Europe on 1 July 2016. Colonel Waibel obtained his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX in 1993 graduating Cum Laude and a Distinguished Military Graduate while earning a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. He then earned his medical degree (M.D.) with honors at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX in 1997. After completing a pediatric residency in 2000 at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, WA, Colonel Waibel went on to complete an Allergy/Immunology Fellowship in 2002 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of the AMEDD Intermediate Level Education, AMEDD Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Flight Surgeon Course, Combat Casualty Care Course, Chemical and Biological Casualties Course, and Medical Effects of Ionizing Radiation. Colonel Waibel’s past assignments include: Clinic OIC, Allergy/Immunization Clinic, San Antonio Military Medical Center, San Antonio, TX; Battalion Surgeon, 2-30 IN BN, 4-10 MTN DIV, FOB Loyalty, Iraq; Clinic OIC, Allergy/Immunization Clinic, Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, GA; Flight Surgeon, 426 FSB, 1-101 ABN DIV, Q-West, Iraq. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), the Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award, Combat Medical Badge, Army Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Order of Military Medical Merit, the AMEDD “A” Designator. COL Waibel has served as the President of the Military Allergy and Immunology Assembly and has published over 30 peer-reviewed medical articles.
