Biography

Dr. Smith is a board certified pediatric nephrologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. She is a native of coastal Georgia where she grew to love and value learning. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Georgia in 1999. She then completed medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine in 2003 where her love of pediatrics began. After a rigorous but fulfilling internship in pediatrics at The University of Hawaii, she proceeded to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA where she completed pediatrics residency and served as chief resident, graduating in 2006. After residency, Dr. Smith completed a three year pediatric nephrology fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. While in fellowship, Dr. Smith earned a Master of Health Science in Clinical Epidemiology and presented data from her clinical research at various national meetings. Dr. Smith is currently an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and an attending pediatric nephrologist at Walter Reed in Bethesda, MD where she is has the privilege of caring for children with acute and chronic kidney disease in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. In addition, she has the honor of being the clinical education coordinator for the pediatric nephrology division and takes great pride in her role contributing to the medical education of USUHS students and pediatric residents. She is an active member of The American Academy of Pediatrics, The American Society of Pediatric Nephrology and the International Pediatric Nephrology Association.
