Biography

CDR Marilisa Elrod graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1996. Selected as a British Marshall Scholar, she deferred entrance into medical school to attend Cambridge University.

While in England, Elrod earned an Honors degree in Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge University. CDR Elrod then studied at The Ohio State University, completing an MS in Statistics and a PhD in Biostatistics and graduated with an MD in June 2005.

Marilisa completed her pediatric internship at the National Capital Consortium in Bethesda, MD. She was selected as an Undersea Medical Officer and completed Navy Dive School. In July 2007, she reported to Naval Submarine Support Command, Pearl Harbor as the Medical Department Head. Elrod was awarded her “dolphins” in 2008 becoming the 12th woman in the history of the US Navy to be qualified in submarines.

She then returned to complete her pediatric residency in 2012 at NMCSD. CDR Elrod completed her fellowship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Madigan Army Medical Center in 2015. She is board certified in both Pediatrics and Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics.

Dr. Elrod currently serves as the Chief of the Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics Division at NMCP. She is the director of Research for the Department of Pediatrics, and is on the Institutional Review Board. She is an Assistant Professor at USUHS. Her research endeavors focus on sleep, the impact of moving homes in military children, and access to intensive behavioral therapy in children with autism.
