BiographyCDR Stokes is a Neonatologist and Chair of the Provider Wellness Committee at WRNMMC. He is Associate Program Director for the NCC’s Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship, and is co-Chair of the Healthcare Ethics Committee. An Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University, he has developed numerous educational initiatives aimed at improving communication between doctors and patients. His work has been highlighted in multiple presentations and peer-reviewed publications. In 2017 CDR Stokes was recognized by his peers and supervisors as a "Master Clinician" at WRNMMC. CDR Stokes served as a staff Neonatologist and Chair of the Maternal-Child Executive Committee at Naval Medical Center San Diego from 2008-2010. There he was awarded the Fran C. Rash Teacher of the Year Award for excellence as a Pediatric Resident Educator.
He joined the Navy after being awarded a Health Professions Scholarship in 1998, and received his Medical Doctorate from the Boston University School of Medicine in 2002. He completed his residency and fellowship training at the National Capital Consortium’s Pediatric Residency and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship from 2002-2008.
CDR Stokes holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the Boston University College of Arts and Sciences. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He was a Regional Finalist for the 2017-18 White House Fellows Program.
He is entitled to wear the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Services Achievement Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and various personal, unit, and service awards.
